Information & Testing
BGE uses
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Transaction guidelines as approved
by the Maryland Public Service Commission. BGE has adopted
these EDI guidelines as the standard electronic communication method
for exchanging data between electric utilities and electricity
suppliers. These EDI transactions are designed to automate and
streamline the typical repetitive business transactions that occur
between BGE and electricity suppliers. The Maryland Public
Service Commission Working Group (GTIWG) has
identified the EDI transaction sets that are used in Maryland.
These transaction sets describe processes for Customer Enrollments &
Drops, Changes in Customer Accounts, Historical & Monthly Usage,
Billing and Invoicing. The EDI transaction sets that are used in Maryland are:
-
814E Enrollment/Historical Usage Request
-
814C Change Request
-
814D Drop Request
-
814R Rescission/Reinstate Request
-
867MU Monthly Meter Data

Effective September 9, 2005, BGE
transitioned from a Value Added Network (VAN) service to a Gas Industries Standard Board (GISB) Electronic Data
Management (EDM) service for providing EDI data transport. BGE has adopted GISB EDM Version 1.4
since it is the most commonly used version by electricity suppliers at
this time. In addition, BGE has decided to move the data
translation and data transformation from an in-house operation to an
outside service provider. Currently, BGE has contracted with
Gestalt, LLC to perform as BGE's EDI service provider and to provide
data management support.
The following links provide information
on EDI testing requirements, plans, schedules and contact information.
In addition, all of the Implementation Guidelines for the above
transaction sets are available in a zipped format.
