Electricity Supplier or Customer-Owned Meters

In the event the electricity supplier or customer elects to provide a meter rather than lease a BGE meter, BGE reserves the right to temporarily replace the meter, at the electricity supplier's expense, if the meter fails to reliably operate, or if there is a safety issue identified by BGE. In this case, the meter owner will be billed for such temporary meter replacement, as noted in Rider 23 - Advanced Meter Services of the BGE Retail Electric Service Tariff. BGE will contact the meter owner to arrange for permanent replacement of the temporary meter.

Meter Standards and Safety

BGE will test, install, and maintain meters per COMAR.

Customers or Electricity Suppliers Choosing Ownership of Advanced Meters

BGE shall maintain the meter per COMAR.  Maintenance under COMAR consists of appropriate periodic testing of the customer or electricity supplier-owned meter in a test plan that is applicable to that type of meter, such that the accuracy of the meter is periodically verified. Any physical defects or problems with the meter are the responsibility of the meter owner, and will be changed and/or replaced based on fees as stated in Rider 23 - Advanced Meter Services of the BGE Retail Electric Service Tariff.

Meter Reading

BGE will remain the sole meter data management agent. BGE will read the meter per current schedules to support the billing options provided for by the Maryland Public Service Commission.
