Electric Metering Information

Baseline Metering Services

BGE will own, install, and maintain a meter that will provide the necessary information for calculating BGE and electricity supplier charges in accordance with the BGE Retail Electric Service Tariff.  This information will vary by tariff schedule.  Click on the above Baseline Metering Services link for more information. 

 

Advanced Metering Services

With written authorization from the customer, electricity suppliers may request and pay for Advanced Metering under the same provisions available to customers in the BGE Retail Electric Service Tariff. If Advanced Metering is installed, the customer shall become an hourly customer.  Click on the above Advanced Metering Services link for more information. 

 

Electricity Supplier/Customer-Owned Meters

With written authorization from customers, electricity suppliers may request and pay for non-utility owned metering for their customers under the same provisions available to customers in the BGE Retail Electric Service Tariff. Any applicable costs will be charged in accordance with Schedule 1 of the BGE Electricity Supplier Coordination Tariff Click on the above Electricity Supplier/Customer-Owned Meters link for more information. 

 

Meter Testing

In addition to any meter testing that is performed in compliance with PSC regulations, upon the electricity supplier's written request, BGE will test the electric meter(s) used for billing.  In the event a test requested by the electricity supplier establishes that a BGE electric meter is registering inaccurately by more than the applicable PSC tolerances and requirements, as may be revised by the PSC from time to time, the costs of said tests shall be borne by BGE.  Any BGE electric meter found to be inaccurate by more than the applicable PSC tolerances and requirements, or is otherwise found to be defective, shall be adjusted, repaired or replaced, at the sole cost and expense of BGE.  The cost of testing a meter at the request of the electricity supplier, which is determined to be operating within applicable PSC tolerances and requirements and not found to be defective, will be borne by the electricity supplier as referenced in Schedule 1 of the BGE Electricity Supplier Coordination Tariff.  Costs will be calculated and billed under the same terms and conditions as BGE customarily uses for similar requests from full service tariff customers.
